How to build a website with AI: what you get for free in an evening, and where the traps are

AI will put together a draft website in minutes, often for free. But free means an address on someone else's domain, a cap on requests, and copy in which the model may confidently invent a price or an address. Here is what the services really do, where the traps are, and how to build an honest draft yourself in one evening.

A browser window in which page blocks assemble themselves: three are already in place and a fourth, orange one is still dropping in from above; beside it, a magnifying glass with two lines of text under the lens

Yes, you can build a website with AI, and you can do it for free. Wix and WordPress.com build a site through a conversation with AI, Tilda generates individual blocks and copy, and Lovable, Bolt and v0 write code from a description. In one evening you will have a working draft. But a free plan usually means an address on the platform’s domain, its badge or ads on your site and a cap on AI requests. Facts, prices and any Uzbek text still need checking by a person.

Features and prices below come from the services’ official pages as of 1 October 2026. Where we convert to Uzbek sum, we use the Central Bank rate for the same day: 1 USD = 11,808.76 sum.

What AI website builders can do in 2026

The tools fall into three groups, and each has its own traps.

AI inside a regular website builder. Wix takes a description of your business and generates the site structure, pages, layout and copy, which you then adjust with drag and drop. You can start free with no card; a custom domain needs a paid plan. WordPress.com also offers to build a site by chatting with AI, with usage limits. Tilda generates copy and has Vibe Block, which writes the code for a single block from a chat description, from a calculator to an animation. Tilda says Vibe Block is available on all plans. The upside of this group is that you keep a normal visual editor. The downside is that the site lives on the platform: Wix, for example, does not let you move it elsewhere.

AI that writes code. You describe the site in words; the service writes an app and shows it live. A comparison based on the official pages:

Lovable Bolt v0
Free 5 credits a day, max 30 a month 300K tokens a day, 1M a month 7 messages a day
Paid from $25 a month (100 credits) $25 a month $30 a month
Custom domain Paid plans only Pro only Via Vercel, see below
Service badge Removed on paid plans Removed on Pro Not stated on the pricing page
Taking the code GitHub sync on all plans, download on paid Download as a zip GitHub sync

General-purpose chat assistants. ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini will write an HTML page if you ask. But hosting, the domain, forms and updates are left to you, and without basic skills that quickly hits a wall.

The traps of an AI-built website

Generic design

AI builds a site from the most typical choices. If your request has no style, examples or photos, you get an averaged page that looks like thousands of others. The cure is material: your logo, colours, real photos, and two or three sites you like.

Filler copy and invented facts

Language models sometimes guess when they are unsure and produce plausible but incorrect statements instead of admitting uncertainty. That is how the paper Why Language Models Hallucinate (Kalai et al., September 2025) describes it. On a website that means invented prices, deadlines, guarantees, “ten years in business” and testimonials. Customers read everything on your site as your promise. We looked at how that ends in the Air Canada case: Your website chatbot speaks for you.

Mistakes in Uzbek

For readers outside the region: Uzbek is written in both Latin and Cyrillic script, and customers in Uzbekistan use both. The apostrophe in the letters oʻ and gʻ is typed in several different ways. Machine-written text easily mixes scripts or reads like a literal translation. Have a native speaker check the Uzbek version. More on what AI can do in Uzbek is in AI in the Uzbek language.

Code and hosting on someone else’s platform

Check three things before you invest in the site:

  • Can you take the code? Lovable offers GitHub sync even on the free plan and states that the apps and code you create are yours (documentation). Wix does not let you take the site.
  • Is this allowed for a business? v0 publishes sites to Vercel. Vercel’s free Hobby plan is restricted to non-commercial, personal use, so a company website needs a paid plan.
  • Who owns the domain? Register it in your own name. On Lovable, the free project.lovable.app address cannot be removed; you can only set your own domain as primary, which requires a paid plan.

SEO

Google does not penalise AI as such. Its 2023 guidance says: “Appropriate use of AI or automation is not against our guidelines.” What breaks the rules is generating content to manipulate rankings. Google’s spam policies give the example of using generative AI to produce many pages that add no value for users. A hundred pages of “flat repairs in every district” with the same text fit that description. Search engines want an answer nobody else has: your prices, your work, your address.

Personal data in forms

A form asking for a name and phone number collects personal data. Uzbekistan’s Law on Personal Data requires consent in a form that lets you prove it was obtained (Article 21). So you need a consent checkbox and a link to a privacy policy. Under Article 27¹, only biometric and genetic data and the data of telecom subscribers must be stored inside Uzbekistan; the law allows other data to be stored abroad if its conditions are met. One more detail: on Lovable’s Free and Pro plans, workspace data is not excluded from AI model training by default; you opt out per account (Lovable plans).

Support

On Lovable’s free plan, support means the community; email support starts with Pro. When the form stops working on a Friday evening, there will be no one to write to. Decide in advance who looks after the site after launch.

A free AI website in one evening: step by step

  1. Write a half-page brief yourself. Who you are, what you sell, prices, address, opening hours, phone, Telegram, and the five questions customers ask most.
  2. Choose a tool. If you want to edit without code, use Wix or Tilda. If you want code you can take away later, use Lovable or Bolt.
  3. Give the AI facts, not a request to make things up. Paste the whole brief and add: “do not add any numbers or promises that are not in the brief”.
  4. Check every number. Prices, deadlines, years in business, address. Delete anything that is not in the brief.
  5. Have a native speaker check the Uzbek version. At the very least the first screen, the buttons and the form.
  6. Set up the form. Leads should arrive where you will see them: Telegram or email. Add consent to data processing and a privacy policy.
  7. Test on a phone. Open the site on mobile data, not Wi-Fi. How to measure speed is covered in our article on page speed.
  8. Show it to five customers. Ask what is unclear on the first screen. That is worth more than any generation.

At the end of the evening you have an honest draft on a free address, with the service’s badge. Moving to your own domain means paying a subscription to the builder or service.

When you need a developer

A draft is good for testing an idea. You need a developer if:

  • the site must take payments through Click or Payme (local Uzbek payment services), send leads to a CRM or work with a bot;
  • you need a catalogue with filters, or a site in three languages where each version has its own address for search;
  • you want custom animation and scenes that do not lag on an inexpensive phone;
  • the site is your main sales channel and a day of downtime costs money;
  • customer data flows through the forms in noticeable volume.

How we use AI ourselves

We write code together with an AI assistant, and it speeds the work up noticeably. But a person does the site architecture, the copy and the checking. We decide which pages are needed and what search engines will see. Every number in the text is checked against a primary source, as in this article. We read and check AI-written code before it reaches the site. Generation gives a draft; responsibility for the site stays with us.

What to do next

Try building a draft using the plan above: it costs nothing and clarifies a lot. If you like the draft but it has hit a wall on payments, CRM, languages or speed, bring it to a brief: it will save time on both sides. How we build websites is shown on our website development page. The “Start” package begins at 4.9 million sum (about $415); the other packages are in the price list (PDF, Russian), and what websites cost on the local market is covered in How much does a website cost.
